Sip in Style: Your Handmade Mug

Get ready for a fun, hands-on pottery adventure where you’ll create your very own ceramic mug!

Mugs might look tricky at first, but they’re surprisingly beginner-friendly. Using simple hand-building techniques like pinching and coiling, you’ll shape your mug, add a circular base, and then get playful with all kinds of quirky and creative handle designs. You can even add characters or fun designs with surface decorations!

Instructors will guide you step by step, making it easy and enjoyable. Bring your imagination, experiment with textures and personal touches, and enjoy a relaxed, playful workshop where you’ll take home a unique mug made entirely by you. Due to the kiln-firing process, finished mugs will be ready for pickup approximately 3–4 weeks after the workshop.

About the Instructor

Rylan Cocks is an artist and art educator holding Bachelor’s of Fine Arts from Emily Carr University of Art and Design. Approaching his work with maximalist sensibilities such as over-patterning, glimmers of gold and silver, animal prints, and the introduction of other mediums such as textiles and rhinestones, Rylan’s practice brings forward a question of taste. This question of taste is not asking what makes good or bad art, but inevitably how we should all forge our own creative sensibilities. Rylan has worked in an arts education capacity for over 4 years and hopes to encourage self-expression, nurture imagination, and help bring student’s work into fruition.
