Vancouver performing arts company Pangaea Arts presents STORIES ONWHEELS, an original street theatre storytelling act for the whole family. Tales are brought to life by a high-energy comic performer, using beautifully illustrated picture cards displayed in a magnificent miniature wooden stage attached to the back of a unique bicycle. Inspired by a traditional Japanese travelling storytelling show popular from the 1920s through the 1950s called kamishibai (literally "paper theatre"), the show combines the best of oral storytelling and visual art. Featuring gorgeous illustrations by BC artists, as well as traditional picture cards from Japan, several short stories are told with music, dramatic action, and audience interaction. You’ve never been told a story this way, before!
Stories On Wheels has been wheeling into festivals, special events, libraries, schools and museums throughout Western Canada for over 14 years. They are super excited to be part of this new outdoor festival and entertaining audiences in Port Moody!
About the Artist:
Lenard Stanga is an actor, storyteller and theatre creator. As well as performing on professional stages throughout Western Canada, he has co-created and performed in shows that feature mask, puppetry, storytelling, and interactive roving characters, including theatre for young audiences, festival and street theatre shows that have toured in Canada, Japan, China, Singapore, and South Korea. Much of his current work is creating shows with Pangaea Arts, an intercultural world arts theatre that features artists and art forms from around the world. As well as performing at festivals and private events with Stories on Wheels, he can also be seen giving walking tours around Gastown about our city’s sordid past with Forbidden Vancouver. He also works at Burnaby Village Museum as an historical interpreter.
