Marianne Phillips studied Psychology and Fine Arts at U.B.C. Upon graduation she traveled and then worked as an arts facilitator in a therapeutic setting for 35 years here in the Lower Mainland. In her personal artistic practice Marianne works mainly with Mixed Media, Textile and Fibre Arts because they allow her the freedom to be spontaneous and experimental. She also loves to create simple jewelry from found objects such as beach glass and re-purposed metals.
Although she is inspired by the exterior world, her work is largely informed by her interior landscape where she draws from her memories, dreams and emotions.
“I find there is a magical alchemy that happens when I am absorbed in the mystery of the creative process. This is when ideas flow freely and I am carried away into a wonderland of creative exploration and expression.”
