This August, Port Moody Arts Centre is happy to welcomeMalory Tate as our new Ceramic Artist in Residence (CAIR) for 2017-2018. Taking over from Gloria Han in August, Malory will become an integral part of life at the arts centre, working in the Ceramic Artist-in-residence's studio and keeping an eye on activity in the other clay studios.
Currently residing in Vancouver, Malory Tate was born and raised in Kamloops, a small city in the interior of British Columbia. Tate has received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, with a major in Ceramics and a minor in Art History from NSCAD University in the beautiful city of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Malory is presently the ceramic artist in residence at the Port Moody Art Centre.
My motivating intent as a ceramic artist is to create an experience reflecting beauty and specificity within utility. Memory and sentimentality play a key contributing role in my creative process, and the conversation between a ceramic form and its function fascinates and inspires me. My interest lies in the things in our lives that enrich us; things that we collect and arrange that hold personal meaning. My work is inspired by celebrations of love and life, which compel me to elevate domestic rituals of presentation from basic actions to exceptional gestures.
