Artist Statement

My vessels are created to bring pleasure to day-to-day tasks.  Drinking coffee, pouring a glass of chilled water, tossing a salad, or displaying freshly cut flowers… all of these rituals are enhanced by handmade vessels.  I enjoy the interconnectedness of creating pieces that live in another’s home. .

Clay found me in a high school art class.  I gathered the dense grey lump into my hands and it was love at first squeeze.  Since that day, pottery has been a constant in my life.  I have been privileged to learn from many distinguished clay teachers and I’ve spent countless hours in the studio perfecting my craft.  The dance between hands and clay captures my imagination, and I can often be found day-dreaming about my next ceramic project.

I am proud to be an agent of the Slow Movement, creating unique vessels by hand, each one subtly different from the other.   My work is guided by a less-is-more philosophy reflecting the tactile and malleable quality of clay as it spins on a potter’s wheel.  The glazing is minimal, to reveal the raw nature of the clay.   The marks and undulations left by my hands and tools are left uncovered.   Each piece is created to bring joy to the touch and to please the eye.
