Maria Batista creates one of a kind glass blown art specializing in home décor. Her art is inspired by bright colours, movement, playfulness and her natural surroundings.
Maria Batista has been working with glass for the past four years. Her first taste of glassblowing began at Terminal City Glass where I took a weekend workshop. Maria has been fascinated with glass from an early age. The transparency of glass drew her in. She loves the combination of art, creativity, strength, and science that glassblowing encompasses.
Glassblowing is a part of Maria's daily life and she blows glass on a weekly basis. When she starts a piece she has decided on the colours and general form of the piece. Maria works intuitively and follows her whims. The most satisfying part of glassblowing for her is seeing a piece come together as she is in the flow of working. Working with hot molten glass is complex, challenging, versatile, dangerous, exciting and rewarding all at the same time. This is what keeps Maria coming back to glass again and again.
