This collection of places evokes special memories for me. These landscapes provide peace and solace, or awaken my imagination. All of them are within easy reach of home, so that I can return to them often. This is my first series of landscapes; I usually express myself in portraits or still life. I think of them as illustrations in a favourite book, which is one reason I used pen and ink with watercolour. My general style is generally quite precise and realistic, so it was a joy to create something looser and more impressionistic in style.
