Build a Beat! Crafting, Music, & Art
Culture Days at PoMo Arts
September 29 - 30, 2018
Port Moody Arts Centre is hosting our own rhythm-inspired activity during Culture Days on September 29 and 30. Join us as we transform our Appleyard Parlour into a music makerspace where we’ll collectively make musical instruments out of recycled materials. Get hands-on in your community and help us build a beat—and maybe bust a few dance moves, too!
See our Culture Days event listing for more information.

About Culture Days
Culture Days is a national awareness campaign that is designed to inspire and catalyze greater public arts participation in all Canadian communities, culminating in a three-day celebration of the arts starting on the last Friday of September. Visit culturedays.ca to learn more about this collaborative movement and discover what's happening across Canada.
BC Culture Days takes play across British Columbia as part of the National Culture Days.
2018 Theme: OnBeat!
OnBeat is a collective drumming and rhythm-inspired event bringing together thousands of Canadians from coast-to-coast to celebrate making the arts accessible, inclusive, and fun! OnBeat events will activate public squares and plazas, parks, streets, concert halls, community centres, gymnasiums and other public spaces where thousands of Canadians will get on beat together.
Universal – nearly every culture in the world has some form of percussion music
Varied – there are thousands of rhythms and patterns to explore
Accessible – whether someone is a toddler or a centenarian, they can bang a drum!
Inclusive – collective drumming events are welcoming, and designed to include all willing participants
Powerful – the rhythm of a drum excites the heartbeat, moves the feet and stirs the soul

Art 4 Life
On display during Culture Days, this explorative exhibition ties together the importance of art in the community and the value of artistic education for youth. Tour the galleries and participate in one of our interactive art activities—like our 'Community Weave' project on handmade frame looms—before heading over to our music makerspace.
